Microdermabrasion: For Beauty that Really is Skin Deep

January 23, 2020

There are a host of skin conditions that plague men and women, and they call all affect a person’s well-being: fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, brown spots, enlarged pores and blackheads, acne scars, the list goes on. If you suffer from any of these conditions, there are ways to reverse them with a process known as microdermabrasion.

At the office of Dermatology for the Family, we can help restore your skin to its natural, healthy appearance using this technique, first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1996. Since then, hundreds of microdermabrasion procedures have been performed, and our experienced, friendly skin-care professionals can determine just the right treatment for your skin problem.

Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure used to renew overall skin tone and texture. It can improve the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, acne scarring, other skin-related conditions. Using a special applicator with an abrasive surface, the thick outer layer of the skin is gently sanded away. Another technique sprays fine particles of certain exfoliating chemicals onto the skin that are then suctioned off.

No anesthesia or numbing agent is used for microdermabrasion. During your appointment, you’ll be seated in a reclining chair. A handheld device is used to gently treat the outer layer of skin in the targeted areas. At the end of the treatment, a moisturizer will be applied to your skin.

Common side effects of microdermabrasion include temporary mild tenderness, swelling, and redness or minor bruising that will soon go away — but the aesthetic effects of this procedure are well worth any discomfort.

The office of Dermatology for the Family is your go-to destination for safe and effective microdermabrasion and for other procedures designed to help you look and feel your best. For more information on our office and the many services that we provide, give us a call today.
